The Mindful Lens:

Mindful photography courses for people who want to slow down and pay better attention to their lives.

This is not a photography website.

The photographs matter, of course. But they are not the point.

The point is what happens just before the photograph. The moment you stop. The moment something catches your eye and, instead of walking past, you actually look. The moment your attention arrives, fully and without hurry, in the place you are already standing.

That moment, small and ordinary and easily missed, is what The Mindful Lens is about.

Using a phone or camera as a tool for mindfulness is not a new idea. But it is a quietly powerful one. Because a camera gives you something that most mindfulness practices don't: a reason to stop. A socially acceptable excuse to crouch down and look at something small. Permission, in a world that rewards speed and productivity, to simply stand still and pay attention.

The courses here are built around that idea. They draw on mindfulness research, nature writing and the science of what genuinely restores us. And they ask one simple thing of you: that you show up, go slowly, and trust that the ordinary world has more to offer than you have been giving it credit for.

No experience needed. No specialist equipment. Just you, your phone or camera, and a willingness to look a little more closely at the life you are already living.

I am so glad you are here.

The Quiet Photographer

Three courses. One gentle journey.

The Mindful Lens is a series of three self-paced mindful photography courses. Each one builds gently on the last, though all three can be taken independently. Together they form a complete journey from first noticing to deep practice.

SEED A beginner's course in mindful photography

This is where it begins.

Five online modules that introduce you to the practice of slow, intentional looking and what it does to your attention, your wellbeing and your relationship with the ordinary world. SEED asks nothing more of you than a willingness to stop, look and be gentle with yourself along the way.

This course is for anyone who feels the pull toward stillness and doesn't quite know how to find it. No experience needed. No right or wrong way to do this.

Available now. Enrolling Summer 2026.

ROOT Going deeper in mindful photography

The practice takes root.

Five online modules that move from the objects in your home to the landscapes that restore you, from the turning of the seasons to the quiet autobiography your images have been writing all along. ROOT asks you to stay a little longer, go a little deeper, and begin to trust what the practice is showing you about yourself.

This course is for anyone who has completed SEED and feels ready to go further. Or for anyone who already knows how to slow down and is beginning to ask what the slowing down is showing them.

Coming Autumn 2026.

REACH The practice meets the life

Something shifts.

Six modules that ask what happens when a practice stops being something you do and starts becoming the way you are. About joy, uncertainty, awe and the extraordinary things that happen in ordinary moments when you have learned to really look. REACH is the course about what the practice has been quietly preparing you for all along.

Coming Winter 2026.

What's included:

Self-paced learning with no deadlines and no right or wrong way to do it.

Short, accessible teachings rooted in mindfulness and nature, brought to life with original mindful photography.

A simple guided breathing moment before each practice, to help you arrive before you begin.

Three gentle prompts at the end of every module for optional journalling or quiet pondering. Take what is useful. Leave the rest.

Further reading for every module, for those who want to go deeper.

Two years access from the date of enrollment.

A gentle note

The Mindful Lens is a mindful photography practice and a course in presence. It is not a therapeutic programme and it is not a substitute for professional mental health support.

Many people find that slowing down, spending time in nature and practising mindful attention has a genuinely positive effect on their wellbeing, and the science supports that. But if you are currently experiencing significant mental health difficulties, please do prioritise reaching out to a qualified professional.

If you need support, the Samaritans are available 24 hours a day on 116 123, or visit mind.org.uk for mental health resources.
